The Regina Caeli
Why do we pray the Regina Caeli instead of the Angelus during Easter?
Because Easter changes everything.
Traditionally recited at 6 a.m., noon, and 6 p.m. during Eastertide, often while standing.
During this holy season, the Church sets aside the Angelus — the prayer that recalls the mystery of the Incarnation — and lifts up the Regina Caeli, a hymn of joy that proclaims the Resurrection of Christ.
It is the prayer of a Church that no longer stands at the threshold of the empty tomb, but sings with certainty: the Lord is truly risen.
In the Regina Caeli, we join Our Lady not in sorrow, but in triumph. We contemplate the Mother who bore the Crucified and now rejoices in the victory of her Son over sin and death. The Alleluia returns to the lips of the faithful because heaven itself has opened again in hope.
From Easter Sunday until Pentecost, this prayer becomes the voice of the universal Church: joyful, Marian, paschal.
A reminder that the Resurrection is not only an event to remember — it is a living reality that transforms the world, sanctifies time, and fills the Christian heart with hope.
